
Family Sponsorship
If you are an eligible sponsor and a holder of either Canadian permanent residency or citizenship, you can apply to sponsor your spouse, common law partner or conjugal partner to live with you in Canada on a permanent basis.
To be an eligible sponsor, some of the eligibility requirements are as follows:
- You need to show that you are currently living in Canada if you are PR card holder.
- Show the proof that you can financially support your spouse
- Submit the duly signed sponsorship undertaking with your spouse
- Your spouse should be at least 18 years old for spousal sponsorship.
You can either apply for your sponsorship under Family class outside Canada category or Spousal sponsorship inside Canada.
Both programs have different eligibility conditions. As one provides you with the work permit or other temporary resident permit option while the other doesn’t

Sponsor your Dependant child
Family sponsorship programs allows you to sponsor your dependent child or dependent child of dependent child.
These are some of the eligibility requirements which the applicants need to meet:
- Dependent child should be less than 22 years old
- If dependent child is over 22 years of age, then child has depended substantially on the financial support of the parent since before the age of 22 and is unable to be financially self-supporting due to a physical or mental condition.
- Dependent child should not be in married relationship, common law relationship or conjugal relationship.
Sponsor your extended family member
Depending on your eligibility conditions, you may be able to sponsor orphaned close relatives and other extended family members under family sponsorship program.
- Applicant’s age must be under 22 years old should be not have a married partner, common law partner or conjugal partner.
- Sponsor must meet the income requirement guidelines to support the family member under sponsorship agreement
- Applicant should be either related to the sponsor through blood or adoption.
