LMIA stands for Labour Market Impact Assessment, formerly known as Labour Market Opinion (LMO). ESDC is the Canadian department which overlooks the LMIA’s processing. It is a rigorous application with intensive details and a mandatory document in most cases where any employer who wishes to hire temporary foreign workers in Canada either from inside or outside Canada.
It is an assessment document processed by ESDC to gauge the impact of offering a job to foreign worker on Canadian labour market. If the report is positive, then employer can move forward with the hiring process for temporary foreign worker.
